Gay Head Lighthouse Advisory Board
Notes of Meeting 10-9-19
Aquinnah Town Hall Selectmen’s Meeting Room
Members present: Chairman Len Butler, Richard Skidmore, Kathy Rainey, Jim Pickman (via phone)
Members Not present: Bettina Washington, Tom Murphy
- The meeting began at 4:30pm
- First on the agenda was a review of the 9/4/19 minutes. Richard motioned to accept the minutes as amended. Motion was seconded by Kathy. The Committee voted 4-0, the motion passed.
- Jim gave a review of accounts. With the addition of $5150 from the 10k Race, $506 in contributions from the donation box and $270 in expenses, there is approx. $28,735 in the account. There are no outstanding invoices. The Committee discussed the recent $71,000 discovered CPC funds and upcoming Special Town Meeting Warrant. Should the warrant articles pass, the Committee will be receiving money to pay Landscope for grass remediation, but the Committee was unsure when the funds would be available. The LAB will request clarification from Derrill and CPC regarding the warrant articles and the $20,000 that they approved at the prior meeting for restroom engineering and feasibility study (unclear if money will be taken from CPC FY’20 funds or the discovered CPC Lighthouse funds).
- Richard gave a Lighthouse and Park report: a condolence letter has been sent to the family of a major lighthouse move contributor; a solicitation letter sent to the Trillium beer company was read into the minutes (company has been using a graphic image of the lighthouse on their product); the paperwork for the National Register Signage Grant Program has been completed and Jeffery is writing a letter attesting to the Town ownership of the property; and Richard met with the Coast Guard to discuss the possibly of purchasing power for the Lighthouse from the Town’s landfill solar panels (Coast Guard is checking to see if they in fact pay the energy bill).
- The Committee discussed a restoration update. Len is still completing a letter summarizing ex-pected expenses for the remaining restoration work. Len will send the letter to Richard who will then forward it on to Rep. Dylan Fernandes and State Rep. Angelo Puppolo.
- Next, the Committee discussed fundraising and grants. There is no new news on the State Bond Bill.
- Under new business, Len stated that he will be contacting Landscope to start the process for grass remediation. Jeffrey is still waiting for approval from the Dept. of Transportation for the use of highway funds for the pedestrian guardrail. He doesn’t want to commit to the project until the Town gets approval. There was brief discussion concerning the MV Bank $500 contribution to the 10k Race and race results.
- The Committee scheduled their next meeting for Tuesday November 12th, 2019 at 4:30pm. With no other business to discuss, a motion was made and seconded to adjourn. The Board voted unanimously in favor, the motion passed. The meeting ended at 5:00pm.
Respectfully submitted, Sophia Welch - Board Administrative Assistant
