Selectmen’s meeting
November 2, 2018
MINUTES

Attending: Jim Newman, Julianne Vanderhoop, Gary Haley, Brian Vanderhoop, Jeffrey Madison (Town Administrator)

The meeting was called to order at 9:30 a.m.

Following a discussion on the need for a third constable to monitor the election on November 6, 2018 the Jim moved and Julie seconded a motion to appoint Elaine Vanderhoop as a constable. The motion passed without further discussion.

There was a discussion of the Shellfish Committee meeting held on October 30. Brian Vanderhoop passed along a recommendation from the Shellfish Committee that the family season for bay scallops open at sunrise on November 4. He mentioned that the water temperature had dipped to around 57 degrees Fahrenheit and the Committee feels that this temperature, while not ideal, will be sufficient to allow fishermen to go into the Pond to check on whether there is sufficient stock of adult scallops to consider a commercial season. He also passed along the recommendation that the family limit be set at 1 bushel per week per family.

Juli made a motion that the Selectmen open the family season with a one bushel limit per week per family on Sunday November 4, 2018 as recommended by the Shellfish Committee. Jim seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously without further discussion.

In other business the Selectmen asked the Town Administrator to write a letter to Dylan Fernandes and Julian Cyr requesting that they intervene on behalf of Aquinnah’s attempt to bury wires at Aquinnah Circle. Verizon is attempting to charge the town $25,000.00 to pull wires through conduit installed by the Town.

Jim suggested that there be an article on the next town meeting warrant that ask that the Town sell land at Margaretsport Hill.

The Selectmen decided to shut off the water and close the restrooms at the Cliffs following Veterans Day Weekend.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:47 a.m.
