MEETING
April 2, 2019

MINUTES

Attendance: Gary Haley, Julianne Vanderhoop, Simon Bolin, Randhi Belain, Jeff Madison (Town Administrator).

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Haley at 4:32 p.m.

Review of minutes was deferred.

Animal Control Officer
(Ad to be placed in Gazette)

First on the agenda was the appointment of an animal control officer (“ACO”). Town Administrator told Selectmen that Frank Perez had expressed an interest. Discussion ensued. Selectmen requested that an advertisement be placed in the newspaper. No other action taken.

Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Grant
(Selectmen approve submission of grant application)

JoAnn Taylor from the Martha’s Vineyard Commission sent materials related to a round of funding by the Massachusetts Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs for towns in the Commonwealth who want to assess climate change vulnerabilities in their town. After discussion Juli move and Gary seconded a motion to request Ms. Taylor to prepare a grant application for the Town. Gary signed the application as required.

GREEN COMMUNITIES
(Selectmen authorize participation
in Regional Energy Planning Assistance Grant Program)

Selectmen reviewed an email from Margaret Song from Cape Light Compact offering her assistance with preparing a bid to become a green community. Julie moved and Gary seconded a motion to pursue the Green Communities Program. Vote was unanimous

Tribe-Town Relations Discussion
(Selectmen release correspondence)

Selectmen discussed correspondence between Attorneys for the Town and Attorneys for the Tribe that relates to the proposed gaming facility. No action was taken.

Other Business:

Simon Bolin informed the Selectmen of a presentation on Fire Safety at the Howes House in West Tisbury.

Town Administrator showed a document that had been uncovered by Rosa Parker at the Library. The document was a citation from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts dated 1884 which cited heroism of Gay Head and Chilmark residents in rescue of folks aboard the City of Columbus. It was suggested that the document be loaned to the Martha’s Vineyard Museum for care and protection as the document is currently deteriorating. The Selectmen by acclamation voted to allow the document to be loaned to the M.V. Museum..
