Selectmen’s Meeting Minutes
July 17, 2918
Attending: Gary Haley, Juli Vanderhoop, Jim Newman, Elise Lebovit, Angela Cywinski, Marsha Shufrin, Paul Manning, Adam Wilson
Meeting was called to order at 10:03 a.m. by Chairman Haley.
The Board discussed a letter from Ben Retmier, Chief of the Tri-Town Ambulance Service, wherein he requested formal adoption of Chapter 467 of the Acts of 2008, Group Classification for EMT’s with notice in writing to the Dukes County Retirement Board of the Selectmen’s action. Without discussion Juli moved, Jim seconded a motion to approve the request. The motion carried without objection.
The Selectmen heard from the Board of Assessors. Marsha Shufrin read a statement that she requested be entered into the record. Basically she objected to the idea of changing the Board of Assessors from an elected to appointed position. The Selectmen took her statement under advisement. Following the statement the Selectmen voted unanimously to appoint Ms. Shufrin to a three year term on the Board of Assessors. Discussion continued wherein Elise requested that she receive copies of all notices sent to the Board of Selectmen. The Board instructed the Town Administrator to send all messages to Ms. LeBovit.
Selectmen took under advisement notice of the article printed in the MV Times regarding objections raised by the Town of Chilmark to parking regulations on Boathouse Road in Menemsha. There being no complaints from Aquinnah leases the Selectmen saw not need for any action at this time.
Liz Witham had requested to be placed on the agenda but failed to attend the meeting.
Selectmen reviewed a letter prepared by the Board of Health concerning health conditions at the kitchen at the Town Hall. The Board adopted suggested rules concerning use and condition of the kitchen.
During discussion of conditions at the Town Hall Selectmen heard from the Town Administrator who requested that parking of all vehicles be limited to the unpaved surface of parking lot in front of the Hall. The Administrator also requested that spaces at the foot of the access ramp to Town Offices be reserved for visitors only. Selectmen voted unanimously to accept the recommendations of the Town Administrator.
The Board approved the request of the Aquinnah Patrolmen’s Association to increase the rate paid to police for details as follows: base rate - $6k0.00/hr; hospital and overtime rate - $90.00. During the discussion the Board approved adding a 10% processing fee to the detail rate.
The Pastor from the Gay Head Community Baptist Church invited the Selectmen to a celebration of 325 continuous years of service.
